EV charging stations have been built across the nation
MOE, Korea: The Ministry of Environment (MOE) has completed building 80 high-speed charging stations for public use to expand distribution of electric vehicles (EV). MOE will entrust the Vehicle Environment Certification Center of Korea Environment Corporation (KECO) with operation of chargers from March. In order to resolve driver’s concern over charging, the public, high-speed charging stations have been set up in cities pioneering in using EVs. Considering the driving distance on one charge, the number of distributed EVs and accessibility to charger, the public buildings, public parking lots, large supermarkets and major tourist attractions were selected for installation spot. EV owners can now use a slow-speed charger for parked cars at home, and stop by at high-speed chargers for emergency use while on the road. When individuals or institutions purchase EV, a slow-speed charger will be built in their parking lot. And, EV drivers can check the location of high-speed chargers via smart phone app, ‘information on charging station,’ or web page. The public charging stations will be provided for free, and there will be a charge for using stations from 2014 after the pilot period.
