NEC conducts HEMS trial in Sweden with the Luleå University of Technology and Skellefteå Kraft

NEC, Japan: NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) began trials of a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) in partnership with the Luleå University of Technology’s (LTU) Centre of Distance-spanning Technology (CDT) and Skellefteå Kraft, a leading Swedish power company, as part of Skellefteå city’s “Sense Smart City Project”. The trial will measure the overall power consumed by a number of individual households and selected appliances until May 2013 in Skellefteå city. NEC is providing its intelligent home gateway for collecting power consumption information, its user interface for visualization and its Android tablet, the “Cloud Communicator LT-B.” One of the main goals of the trial is to measure the effects that visualization of energy consumption has on tenants and how to improve and maintain their motivation to conserve energy. NEC’s web based application supports this goal. (Source: http://www.nec.com/en/press/201212/global_20121220_02.html)
