The 4th Annual Meeting of LCS-RNet held in Oxford, UK
LCS-RNet: The 4th Annual Meeting of LCS-RNet was held on 17-18 September, in Oxford, United Kingdom, co-hosted by the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). 71 people including researchers and policymakers from 14 countries and 4 international organizations attended the meeting. The meeting addressed the common issues and challenges towards low carbon society by developed and developing countries. The issues discussed in the meeting were transformation of the energy system, reducing energy demand and decarburizing energy supply, and implementation of policy towards a low-carbon society, and the role of science in policy formation, and also taken-up efforts towards low-carbon by developing countries. In addition, the future of LCS-RNet was discussed as it will come to the end of first phase in 2013. The uniqueness of LCS-RNet was emphasized as a researchers’ network focused on low carbon societies, interaction between researchers and policymakers while the needs for improvement of the organizational structure and for the expansion of the network from G8 to G20 plus were also stressed. The results of the meeting are expected to be announced and reported to side events of the 18th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP18) and G8 Environment Ministers Meeting in 2013.
