Vietnam – Belgium: towards a cooperation agreement in the field of land

On the afternoon of 13/12, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Manh Hien and representatives of agencies under the Ministry received the East Flanders province delegation of– the Kingdom of Belgium. The two sides agreed to reach to cooperation agreement in the field of land in the coming time.

The Third Session of Vietnam – Netherlands Intergovernmental Committee on adaptation to climate change and water management successfully concluded.

the agreement on strategic cooperation in response to climate change and water management ( SPA ) signed on October 4, 2010 by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Prime Minister Balkenende is a landmark in the cooperation in this field. SPA agreement has opened a new vision for the strategic partnership between the two governments, determined goals and strategic priorities for cooperation in the coming years to support Vietnam to cope with challenges posed by climate change through programs, master plan based on the comprehensive cohesion among different levels, sectors, regions, businesses, research Institutes of the two countries in the field of adaptation to climate change and water management.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the implementation progress of the content that had been signed within the framework of the agreement at the second session and at the same time discussed the next steps in the framework of the agreement. Also, the two sides discussed the contents in the agreement that are being implemented.

International cooperation in hydrometeorology strengthened

In 2013, National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has increased its cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), ASEAN Sub-Committee on Meteorology and Geophysics, as well as cooperation with China, South Korea, Japan and a number of other non-governmental organizations. Especially last November, the United Nations Climate Change Conference which was held in Warsaw, Poland, the World Meteorological Organization has decided to choose Vietnam to be a forecasting center for Southeast Asia. Then, Vietnam will be responsible for initial forecasting for all countries in the region. This important event marks a big leap in this field in Vietnam.

Urban areas’ scheme to response to climate change

PM Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved a scheme on developing the country’s urban areas to response to climate change in the 2013-2020 period. The scheme will be implemented in all cities and provinces across the country, particularly those directly affected by climate change.
