Creating the natural environment in urban development

At the 12th plenary meeting of the network of major cities in Asia 21st century (ANMC21), held on November 18th  in Hanoi, representatives of major Asian cities such as Tokyo, Hanoi, Singapore, Bangkok and Jakarta proposed optimal solutions in urban planning, environmental protection and urban energy policies. Green urban development, which is environment-friendly, is considered the focal point of the nations with a common orientation.

Vietnamese delegation’s activities in the first week of 19th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 19)

United Nations Annual climate change Conference (CC) was held in Warsaw, Poland on November 11 and 12, 2013. This conference has great significance in promoting the construction of a new international legally binding agreement in response to global climate change by 2015.

Right from the first day of the conference, the Vietnamese delegation has actively participated in related activities. Besides, the Vietnamese delegation stressed the on-going disasters as the negative impact of climate change, and urged countries to early promote negotiations to achieve a comprehensive agreement to deal with this challenge.

Vietnam to attend COP 19

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, 19th Conference of the Parties (COP 19) and the 9th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol will take place in Warsaw Poland from 11 to 22 November. In preparation for this meeting, on November 5, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha has chaired a meeting of Vietnam delegation whose will attend the conference, to suggest them raising their responsibilities.

It is expected that Vietnam will indicate its bilateral and multilateral commitments that Vietnam has been implemented on NAMA, JCM and reduction activities.

Under the approval of the Prime Minister, the Vietnam delegation attending the COP 19 will be 50 people led by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha.

Strengthening PPP in emission reduction and climate change adaptation

On 30 October, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha has received Mr. Yvo De Boer, International Consultant, Director in charge of climate change and sustainable development of the international auditing firm KPMG. The two sides have exchanged ideas on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change in Vietnam. The most important thing of the meeting focuses on cooperation between public and private sectors.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said that Vietnam now has issued Law on Energy Saving and Efficiency, on the other hand, the state carried out policies to prioritize the development of renewable and clean energy sources. By 2015, the government will eliminate subsidization for coal and electricity prices and move its support for new energy.
