New financial mechanism for renewable energy development project

On September 5, 2013, in Hanoi, General Department of Energy (GDoE) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a workshop on new financial mechanisms for renewable energy development project (REDP). The goal of the REDP project is to provide electricity to the nation’s grid from renewable energy sources, to focus on developing small-scale hydropower plants based on commercial investment to ensure sustainable development of the environment and society.
The total budget is US$ 318.05 million. In particular, ODA for the project is US$ 204.275 million and domestic capital is 113.78 million.The project has been implemented from 2009 to 2014.

Opportunities and challenges for Vietnam’s agriculture in the context of climate change.

In the morning of september 10th, Ha noi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in coordination with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held the conference “ Vietnam Agriculture respond to the climate change: opportunities and challenges”
In the period of 2013-2020, the MARD will have orientated activities according to the Resolution N. 24 – ND/TW on responding to climate change proactively, enhancing natural resource management and protecting the environment.

Vietnam become a typical model of environmental protection and response to climate change in Southeast Asia

the afternoon of September 9th, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang has received Ms. Aban Marker Kabraji – Director of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Asia. Under the direction of IUCN, in the future, Vietnam will build the typical models of environmental protection, adaptation to climate change in Southeast Asia.

AFD continues to support SPR-CC in 2013-2015

On September 10th in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha received Mr. Alain Ries – Manager of Communications and Sustainable Energy of the French Development Agency. AFD’s support mainly focuses on policy actions related to energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy. In addition, AFD provides some other technical supports for SP-RCC. In the period 2013 – 2015, AFD committed to continue helping Vietnam access the loans. “In 2014, AFD will provide the 4th support with a capital of 20 million euro”, affirmed Alain Ries.

Awareness of climate change, natural resources savings and efficient use and environmental protection to be raised

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has hosted a meeting on the two draft action plans on climate change and enhancing natural resource management and environmental protection.
The Drafts focus on 8 programs and 19 tasks and schemes so as to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of management and use of land in the future. The draft action plans on climate change, natural resources and environment affirmed that the central task of the Government and solutions in the field will aim to the common goal to mitigate the impact of climate change, effective and sustainable exploitation and use of national resources, to ensure quality of living environment and ecological balance, towards the goal of sustainable development of the country. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment also proposed a list of 25 programs and projects.

Supporting policy response to the climate change

Deputy Prime Ministrier Hoang Trung Hai has signed a decision to approve the policy farmeword for year 2013 which is under the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC)
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is going to developing policies to support the restructuring of planting adaptive to climate change’s impacts; and to prepare the development strategy of cultivation until 2020, with the vision to 2030, to improve the sustainability of agriculture and food security.

The first meeting of Joint Commission for the implementation of general credit Mechanism (JCM)

In the morning of September 18th in Hanoi, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has organized the first meeting of Joint Commission for the implementation of general credit mechanism (JCM).
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Tran Hong Ha, said, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment highly appreciated the financial, technical and technological support of Japanese Government for Vietnam to cope with climate change in recent years.
Mr. Hideo Suzuki, Japanese Ambassador expected that the new technology will contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, and help reduce carbon emissions in the world. Mr. Hideo Suzuki also confirmed that, the cooperation between Japan and Vietnam according to JCM is a pilot collaboration in the world to bring high efficiency in the general trend of global development.
