Launching low carbon project in the field of energy saving in Vietnam
The project was started in January, 2013 and is expected to end in December, 2015. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first phase, survey groups were established to work with some localities, businesses all over the country and five localities were selected for the project, including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh and Can Tho where there are a lot of energy-consuming enterprises. After being implemented in these localities, the project will be expanded to nearby localities.
Three areas, which were selected for the project, are Brick, Ceramics and Seafood processing.
Approval of the Greenhouse gas emission reduction project
National action plan on “reducing Greenhouse Gas emission through the effort of preventing deforestation and forest degradation, sustainable management of forest resources, forest conservation and development (REDD+)” period 2011-2020 was approved by the Prime Minister.
The objective of the period 2011-2015, REDD+ national network will be established and operated effectively; contributing to the protection of existing forest areas, enhancing quality and value of forests, reducing Greenhouse Gas emission, creating more employment and income for residents through conducting the pilot projects of REDD+ in at least 8 provinces.
The period 2016-2020, the objectives are managing and maintaining sustainable development of the forest resources, increasing the forest coverage of the country to 44-45%, conserving biodiversity, diversifying and improving people’s lives.
Bringing carbon emission reduction activities and Carbon Credit Business into Framework
Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has held a conference on “Building Scheme for Greenhouse Gas emission management and managing carbon credit business to the world market”.
The Scheme was developed in order to manage and monitor Gas Household Green emission activities, emission sources in the country and ensure the full implementation of the obligations of a developing country. This is also an opportunity and good condition for the growth of the low-carbon economic development, green growth and together with the international community to reduce emission.
Announce the National Environment Report 2011 – solid waste.
On the 7th of August, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a ceremony in Ha Noi to announce the National Environment Report 2011 on solid waste.
The Solid Waste report, which includes seven chapters, indicates the analysis, evaluation of the population growth, socio-economic development activities that have created a large amount of waste to environment. In addition, the report also concentrates on the analysis of the current status of solid waste in urban areas, agriculture, industry, medicine (especially focusing on hazardous waste).Problems that are related to the direct management activities such as collection, classification, transportation and treatment for each kind of solid waste and so on are also mentioned in the report.
Building the report of national environment 2013 – Vietnam’s air environment
Conference about the national environment report 2013 with the topic “Vietnam Air Environment” was held in Ho Chi Minh city.
During the conference, the status quo and changes in air quality of Vietnam were indicated and discussed. Besides, this conference not only gave the evaluation and pointed out causes and effects of the air pollution but also identified inadequate management methods over current air environment issues. These will be useful for the proposed solutions for air environment management in the future.
