Solar Energy

Setting up of the National Institute of Solar Energy

A new autonomous institution named “National Institute of Solar Energy” was set up under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The institute will function as the apex National centre for research and technology development and related activities in the area of solar energy technologies in the country. The institute would be responsible for the implementation and coordination related tasks for various S and T activities envisaged under the National Solar Mission.

Wind Energy

New Wind energy Plan for Karnataka

The state of Karnataka in southwest part of India will introduce a new policy for the wind sector, according to statements by government officials. Officials said the new regulations were needed as the state’s renewable energy policy did not exclusively cover the wind energy segment, even though Karnataka has considerable wind power potential.

Climate Change and Energy Partnerships

India, UK form green energy forum


India and the UK have formed a green energy forum to enhance and accelerate activities in clean energy. The launch of Indo-UK Green Energy Forum would enhance and accelerate Indo-UK activities in clean energy. It will help in introducing long-term and sustainable commercial collaboration in clean energy and especially with a reference to power and energy sector.

UK government support for Energy Efficiency for Indian state

The UK government plans to share latest technologies and best practices in energy efficiency with the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This will enable the state achieve energy savings worth about Rs 7,500 crore.

India US Joint Partnership on Climate Change

India and US have announced the establishment of a joint working group to develop and enhance action-oriented cooperation in this key sector. In a joint statement Indian  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama, announced the group to begin an enhanced dialogue focusing on working closely in developing an ambitious climate change agreement for the post-2020 period and also on strengthening bilateral efforts in this regard
